| Notes | One of this year’s juvenile squirrels near my apartment was low in a tree, but appeared dead. When I went to retrieve him, he had fallen to the ground. He was alive but almost non-responsive, shallow breathing, but no obvious signs of injury, and didn’t look emancipated. I put him in a dark box to reduce stress just in case he recovered. An hour later, I checked on him and he was dead. Animal examined -- feces present at anus. |

When examined, rigor mortis set in; body still slightly warm; No sign of trauma, eyes slightly open, no fleas evident, anus clear of feces, fur in good condition, teeth and mouth good, no sign of emancipation; the squirrel generally apeared in good health, aside from being, well, dead. |
